After almost a year of not being able to update the website, it
is back up and running! The design has also been improved. Keep checking back for regular updates.

We have just received the news
that we are to receive a donation of £2,500 towards the refurbishment and
improvement of the Derby South District Scout Activity Centre. This facility had
lain largely unused until Lynx Network started using it as their HQ and regular
meeting place, in June 2007. The members have since invested plenty of time,
effort and money into returning the facility to a state whereby it can be used
for its intended purpose—as an activity centre available to all local Scouts.
The donation was made by PricewaterhouseCoopers in recognition of Dan Weaver’s
volunteering efforts and is one of a small number of “Volunteering Excellence”
awards made to employees each year, on top of a standard award of £250 available
to all volunteers. The money will be spent on general improvements to the
building and grounds; including new plasterboards for the interior, kitchen
improvements, windows and redecoration throughout.

Four Lynx Network members have just returned from the trip of a lifetime,
sailing across the North Sea from Newcastle to Bergen in Norway. Martin, Sarah
and Tim all achieved their RYA Competent Crew qualification during the week long
delivery voyage across; whilst second mate Danny stayed on for a second week
sailing around the Norwegian fjords.

Two Lynx Network teams achieved 4th and 5th place at the May 2008 Apex Challenge
at Sherwood Pines in Nottinghamshire. The six hour long overnight competition
included such challenges as mountain biking, climbing and a zip wire.

At the County Scout Network
meeting yesterday, Lynx Network Chairperson Dan Weaver was nominated as the new
Chairperson of Derbyshire Scout Network. He will chair a newly set up committee
made up of Network members - two representatives from each local Network.
