Community
Our involvement in the local
community
Lynx Network is always keen to get
involved in the local community. During the years that our members have been in
Scouting we have taken part in a number of community events and have gained
experience in, amongst others: car parking, event marshalling, leaflet
deliveries, car washing, litter picking, setting up stalls at fairs etc. As a
requirement of the Scout Association, all of
our members have been CRB checked; many of us are also trained in first aid.
Below you will find details of
recent examples and forthcoming events.
If you are organising any events
where you think we may be able to help, please contact us.

UPDATED 13-06-2008
This is a fantastic community
event to be held over the weekend of 5/6th July 2008. The 24 hour relay is the
culmination of a 6 month build-up, during which teams raise as much money as
possible in aid of Cancer Research UK. We were
approached by the organisers with regards to how the Scout Network might get
involved, and had been hoping to pull together at least one team to take part.
Unfortunately, there are numerous Network events already happening that weekend
so we have been unable to get sufficient numbers. However, were pleased to make
a donation of £40 to Relay following a fundraising quiz night; and we hope that
some of us will be there on the day and will be able to enter a team next year.

STAMPS AVAILABLE FROM:
Call 07742 833724 to purchase stamps from Lynx Network, or visit any
of the shops and other businesses located throughout Derby displaying
the yellow posters.
This year's abseil in aid of
Marie Curie Cancer Care took place on Sunday 23rd
September 2007 and several Derbyshire Network members once again took part,
including a couple from Lynx - the second year that we have supported this
event.
We are aiming to raise as much as
we possibly can for this very worthwhile cause. Please
contact us if you are willing to sponsor us.
We were approached to help empty
an elderly couple's attic in preparation for the installation of loft insulation
and Lynx Network were more than happy to offer assistance.
Polaris Explorers and a couple of
our members recently helped to setup the hall at Moorways Sports Centre in
Sinfin for the table tennis tournament held there each year.
This year marks the 25th
anniversary of Derby
Stamp & Deliver, with special silver stamps being issued alongside the usual
yellow ones. Last collection was on Friday December 15th and sales of stamps
have now ceased. Thank you to everyone that has supported the scheme by buying
stamps - also to the people and businesses that have been selling them for us.
Many of us have been involved in
Stamp & Deliver for many years, through Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. And
we still can't escape it in Network!
Each year we help to sort and
deliver thousands of cards, and you can often see us walking the streets of
Derby on Saturday & Sunday mornings throughout December, whatever the weather!
In the evenings, we help Polaris Explorer Scout Unit and the 4th Derby Derwent
Scout Group to sort the thousands of cards for delivery across Littleover,
Blagreaves and Old Normanton. Then at weekends, Lynx Network members will be out
delivering cards across the area of Littleover shown here. The money raised from
the sale of 15p stamps is split between the Scout groups involved and the
nominated charity - which this year is Derbyshire Children's Holiday Centre.
On 24th September 2006 three of
our members, plus three from
Phoenix Network and
one from Sandiacre Network, took part in a
sponsored abseil down the Wilderslowe Tower (the big tower by the DRI) to raise
money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Between us we raised an estimated
£600 - a massive "thank you" to everyone that contributed to this total.
